It only overwrites it for progression purposes and updates the warren report for what is currently happening. As far as World Tarot events go, it just adds the log of events you've seen.
Tactics Ogre PSP is the version that finally got me to love Tactics Ogre. The main story alone takes anywhere between 45 and 60 hours to complete. Considering there are more than 10 classes you can change into and the maximum level is around 30 its barely missable. It will only become missable when you level all classes you can use as Denam are above that level. Unless you do some hardcore grinding for all classes (and you get more later in the game) you will be fine.
