From the other forum I got a solid estimate of 1965. I saw a 1969 P1 with 320xxx so my original guess of 1968 does appear to be wrong. May 10, 2023 · The only s/n I can find on my P38 is the one present on the frame, 128839 followed by an E prefix. I'm finding mixed answers on what exactly this E prefix indicates. I've read sources that claim it means this pistol was made from rejected military / police parts for the commercial market.

As @staubs indicates, a pistol with a FDMxxxx serial should have a Gen 2 cut. I also think a Gen 1 or Gen 2 doesn’t make much difference although the Gen 2 is a little longer and will take more brands of optic sights. That is my understanding as well.
