Pretty sure you can't because of the way the 3DS handles nds games: it basically "shuts down" the normal 3ds functions and goes "back to being a ds" (so it pretty much just stops being a 3ds and just becomes an emulator),so you can't get to the home menu because that would require the 3ds to exit from the "ds mode"

Whichever files you get for NDS roms, I've never used myrient, you need a plain, .nds file. If the file you download is a folder or zipped folder, you'll have to go into it and take the .nds file inside of it. Then put it into your /roms/nds route, and voila.
