I own Chris Costa's Nighthawk 2011 and for the time, it was amazing as it is super accurate, reliable etc, but basically required a master gunsmith to hand build it. If this is a carry gun, I would vote for Aluminum. If for range and training, I would choose the Staccato P steel frame. The DLC coating on the barrel is more cosmetic. You can do it, you are just gonna be out gunned. I already knew that liked the way the 2011 shot, so I chose the Staccato. A $2500 gun is the least of my worries if I have to use it in self defense. They're not that expensive for a 2011, I don't have one but I'd say they're probably worth it- especially if you qualify for the mil/le 15% off + 6 mags deal.

For a carry piece, I think first and foremost, it needs to be reliable and accurate. After that, you need to like it and shoot it well. If you don't like it or shoot it well, it's worth considering a change.
